GOOD KNOCK: Skipper Mithun Manhas took Delhi to a commanding position against Karnataka on the second day. Replying to Orissa’s 323 (overnight 273 for eight), Punjab had made 207 but lost eight wickets. B. Mohanty took four wickets. At Dharamshala, Mumbai had things under control, having pushed the host Himachal Pradesh to 180 for seven after posting 370 on the board. M. Hussain’s four-wicket effort was the reason for HP’s poor show. Kotak hits centuryS.H. Kotak’s century (108) was the highlight in Saurashtra gaining the first innings lead over Maharashtra at Nagothane. Saurashtra made 253 to Maharashtra’s 136. At stumps, Maharashtra was on 34 for one in its second essay, trailing by 83 runs. In Bangalore, Delhi posted a first innings score of 538 against Karnataka at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. On the second day, marred twice by bad light, Delhi skipper Mithun Manhas’s 124 (286m, 188b, 20x4, 1x6) helped the visitor stretch its score from the overnight 337 for two to 538 in 154.5 overs. And, as bad light again intervened at 3.54 p.m., Karnataka was zero for no loss in its first innings, with Pradeep Sangwan having bowled just one ball in his first over. Mazumdar 90, V.R. Samant 60 not out, A.K. Thakur four for 116) v Himachal Pradesh 180 for seven in 59 overs (P. Dogra 42, M. Hussain four for 37) At Bangalore: Delhi 538 in 154.5 overs (S. Dhawan 148, V. Kohli 169, M. Manhas 124, M. Tehlan 41, R. Vinaykumar five for 121) v Karnataka 0 for no loss in 0.1 overs At Nagothane: Maharashtra 136 and 34 for one in 14 overs v Saurashtra 253 in 106.1 overs (S.H. Kotak 108). At Mohali: Orissa 323 in 93 overs (H. Das 100, R.R. Parida 52, Gagandeep four for 63, S. Kaul five for 79) v Punjab 207 for eight in 71 overs (A. Kakkar 53, B. Mohanty four for 42). At Chennai: Tamil Nadu 302 for three in 81.4 overs v Rajasthan (no play possible on the second day due to rain).
