THANJAVUR: Thanjavur Medical College Hospital is to be upgraded with the creation of more facilities to cater to the needs of increasing number of patients coming from surrounding districts.
The construction of a 300-bed block to house an outpatient ward, laboratory, casualty section, a post-operative ward and magnetic resonance imaging section is under progress.
M. Nadarajan, Dean, said that the construction of the post-operative ward with three floors, each with 48 beds, would be completed soon.
The new post-operative ward, constructed using tsunami relief fund of Rs. 2.02 crore given by the Centre , will have a corridor connecting the operation theatre.
Patients in need of intensive care after surgery will be shifted to the Intensive Care Unit on the top floor.
G. Ambujam, Professor of Surgery, said that the floor would be centrally air-conditioned and oxygen supply provision made for each bed.
The 300-bed block is likely to be completed by August.
