VIJAYAWADA: Going by the changing political scenario and the mood among the Left parties, the country may witness a mid-term election any time in 2008 and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will begin its preparation for the same from January, said BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya on Sunday. He told reporters here that though some leaders of the Left parties were ruling out a stand-off with the UPA government on the nuclear deal issue, indications of further strain in their relations were strong, thus changing the political scenario of the country in the next year. “There is scope for new political equations and alliances. This may take place effectively in 2008, and which is why we are starting ‘sammelans’ in all Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies one by one,” he said. Mr. Dattatreya said if film star Chiranjeevi took a plunge into politics, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) would be the first to receive a blow. “The entire political scenario will change if Chiranjeevi enters politics. There will be significant changes everywhere,” he opined. Mr. Dattatreya disclosed that a meeting of the BJP leaders from all coastal districts was held in the city on Sunday to discuss the political situation and a similar meeting would be held in Hyderabad for the party leaders in Telangana and Rayalaseema regions. The meeting was also held to discuss mobilisation for the ‘Chalo Delhi’ programme against the Sethusamudram project on December 30, which would also be held in Delhi. The Ramasethu Rakshana Samiti had given a call for the programme.
