VIJAYAWADA: The Lok Satta Party has questioned the need for a separate law to check physical assaults on doctors and staff of government hospitals when a good number of sections are available in the Indian Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code. Party’s national coordinator Jayaprakash Narayan said at a press conference in Vijayawada that both the doctors who were demanding such a piece of legislation and the Government, which had assured them of bringing about an ordinance, were trying to “cheat” people. The existing laws and sections were enough to bring the culprits who assault any official on duty to book. He demanded that the MLAs who bring the House to disrepute by their behaviour should be expelled from the House. The government had no courage to take a tough decision on the MLAs and hence was talking about new laws.
