Vijayawada
VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Goods Transport Association on Sunday demanded that the officials allow Bhavanipuram to be delivery point for goods and also allot plots to the members of the association at the proposed industrial estate at Urmila Nagar. Addressing a press conference here, president and general secretary of the association B. Suryanarayana and N.R.R. Chowdary respectively, said that the goods transport sector was providing employment to 2,000 persons in the city. The industry was facing a tough time due to some decisions taken by a few officials, they said. The association challenged the decision of the officials that no transport vehicle should be entered into the city. “Though the court gave a judgment in our favour, the officials are not implementing it,” they said. The present practice of unloading of goods at Bhavanipuram was inconvenient to workers. Though the officials were stating that unloading could be done at Ibrahimpatnam, the place was too far from the city, they observed.
