FACT selling imported urea

Staff Reporter

It will solve problems being faced by farmers

27,000 tonnes of imported urea

to be sold in South India

To import Muriate of Potash,

di-ammonium Phosphate

Kochi: Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) will distribute urea in a big way in South India.

A consignment of 27,500 tonnes of urea imported from Saudi Arabia will be sold in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. While 15,000 tonnes of this superior quality prilled urea will be distributed in Kerala, Tamil Nadu will get 7,500 tonnes and the remaining 5,000 tonnes will be made available in Karnataka.

The sale of imported urea had started in Kerala, said a communication from FACT. The sale in other States would start immediately. December and January being the fag end of the current urea season, FACT was planning to sell out the entire quantity during this season.

FACT has finalised plan to import and sell 75,000 tonnes of Muriate of potash (MoP), 50,000 tonnes of Di ammonium phosphate (DAP) and 50,000 tonnes of urea in the four southern States during the next season.

Both MoP and DAP are fertilizers required for various crops in South India. Urea being a widely acclaimed and accepted fertilizer, the demand for it is very high. Trading of these imported products, together with indigenously produced Factamfos and Ammonium sulphate, will solve the problems being faced by farmers due to scarcity of fertilizers.

FACT is also planning to sell bagged gypsum as a branded product. Currently gypsum, which is in good demand, is sold in bulk from the FACT gypsum yard.

While sale of bulk quantity will continue, bagged gypsum will also be made available in the market for agricultural purpose.
