VIJAYAWADA: The Badminton Association of India (BAI), in its annual general body meeting held at Guwahati recently, has decided to conduct medical tests on players reaching the quarterfinals (singles) and semifinals (doubles) in the sub-junior and junior Nationals, the BAI joint secretary K.Ch. Punnaiah Choudary said here on Tuesday. Speaking to The Hindu, Choudary said that the mandatory test would begin at the 32nd junior National and inter-zonal championship to be held at Nellore from December 22. “A panel of two doctors authorised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) will conduct tests on the players for all the future age-group Nationals. Players, despite having an authentic age proof certificate, if rejected by the doctors, will not be eligible to participate in the tournament. “In case the rejected player wishes to challenge the BAI ruling, his or her case would be referred to the law and order machinery,” Choudary added. He said that BAI had informed all the State associations about the test. — Sports Reporter
