Five Rabha women injured in police action

Guwahati: Five Rabha women were injured when police burst tear gas shells and resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse a crowd, most of them women, which gheraoed Lakhipur police station of lower Assam’s Goalpara district on Sunday, demanding the release of four arrested activists of the All Rabha Students’ Union(ARSU).

Police said that four ARSU activists were arrested on Saturday in connection with in an incident of torching of a vehicle.

The injured women were admitted to Goalpara civil hospital from where two have been shifted to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, said official sources here.
