Bangalore: Janata Dal (Secular) president H.D. Deve Gowda on Sunday urged Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur to nip in the bud “all attempts of the communal forces to vitiate peace and communal harmony” and provide security to the minorities in the State. In a letter to the Governor, the former Prime Minister also sought Mr. Thakur’s personal intervention in ensuring that the culprits behind the violence against the minorities during the JD(S) regime in the State were booked. He drew the Governor’s attention to the “attempts by anti-social, anti-national and communal forces” to whip up passions at Tiptur of Tumkur district and said the violence in the town was not an isolated one. Deliberate exerciseIt was part of a well thought-out, planned and deliberate exercise to divide the peace-loving people of Karnataka and disturb peace and tranquillity, ahead of the coming Assembly elections, with the obvious objective of deriving political mileage. Mr. Gowda said the incidents also needed to be looked at in the backdrop of the statement made by the then Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa, that he wanted to “bring about a Gujarat model of development in Karnataka.” Mr. Gowda said he forestalled such attempts by asking the JD(S) legislators not to support the trust vote moved by him in the Assembly. Assures cooperationMr. Gowda assured the Governor of his full cooperation in foiling the nefarious designs of the communal forces which were out to create a fear psychosis among the minorities and thus polarise the people in the State on communal lines, as had been done in Gujarat, ahead of the Assembly elections.
