New Delhi: The stealing of a laptop and a briefcase from the residence of Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad Satayabrata Pal is suspected to be the handiwork of two Pakistanis working in the house rather than by thieves from outside, a report submitted to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. Putting initial speculation to rest that thieves from outside had gained access to the house of the High Commissioner, sources in MEA quoted the report as pointing out that there was no possibility of an entry from the rear without the knowledge of the guard who stands 24 hours on the service lane. The MEA had sent a team of its experts to Islamabad to probe the theft on the intervening night of November 13 and 14. While it was known days in advance that Mr. Pal would be travelling to Karachi on that day, the thieves struck only when the two Indian staff members working in the kitchen had gone out to the nearby supermarket for shopping. Constant vigilThe report said there was no way a thief from outside could gain access to the house from any side as it was under constant vigil by intelligence agencies and Pakistani Rangers. Two Pakistani sweepers and a gardener were working in the house of Mr. Pal, who were there when the theft took place, the sources, quoting the report , said. — PTI
