District police office inaugurated

MOST MODERN: District Police Office complex in Perambalur District. —

PERAMBALUR: A modern district police office (DPO), constructed at a cost of Rs.3 crore, was opened in Perambalur on Sunday.

Speaking after inaugurating the DPO, Union Minister of Information Technology and Communications, A. Raja said that a sub-court, a long-felt need of lawyers and people of the district, would be started in Perambalur.

Referring to a plea by Inspector-General of Police, Central Zone, I. Raja, the Minister assured that a swimming pool would be built at the Armed Reserve grounds.

He also said that steps would be taken to construct a DPO for Ariyalur district which had been carved out of Perambalur district last month. He appealed to the police personnel to put the infrastructure to best use for maintenance of law and order.

The DPO has been built on an area of 32,000 square feet. The two-storeyed building constructed by the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation will house the Protection of Civil Rights (PCR) wing, District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB), District Crime Branch (DCB), Additional Superintendent of Police office, Additional Superintendent of Police (Prohibition Enforcement Wing), Finger Print and Photo sections, Superintendent of Police chamber, Guard Room and Visitors’ Hall, besides the Special Branch and Radio Section. It also has a spacious conference hall.

The DPO will have jurisdiction over eight police stations in Perambalur sub-division.
