Awareness drive
Special Correspondent
Bangalore: When S.R. Naik, Chairperson of the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, visits his home district of Uttara Kannada and asks why there are no organisations to take up cases of rights violations, people often say: “But there are no violations here.”
The commission, says Mr. Naik, has started sensitisation programmes for public servants, especially the police personnel in the State. He is also writing to Vice-Chancellors and heads of institutions on the need to start human rights clubs in schools and colleges.
