Preetam misses title by a whisker

Sports Reporter

CHENNAI: Preetam Dev Moses, champion of champions in the national bike racing circuit, became the first Indian to finish overall second in the Malaysian Super Series 600cc expert category which concluded last weekend. Preetam missed the title by just one point.

Preetam, who was leading the championship race at the beginning of the final round, did well in the qualifying session to take third place on the grid which had racers from Italy, Norway, Great Britain, Singapore and Malaysia.

Flying start

Race 1 saw Preetam get off to a flying start and take the lead in the first lap.

He was ahead till the 13th lap before Nils Uchida Zakariasen of Norway moved past him and went on to take the chequered flag.

In the 14th lap, Italy’s Massimo Nanni also went past Preetam, but the latter clawed his way back in the final lap to take the second spot.

Preetam shot ahead in the very first lap in Race 2 too. This time Nils overtook him in the sixth lap itself. However, Massimo took over the lead in the 10th lap and despite leading comfortably, he allowed Nils to win the race. Had Massimo won, Preetam would have clinched the title.

The Chennai racer is supported by Airtel,

TVS Motor Company, Vaishnovi Engineers and Wilsh Lubricants. Malaysian company SOL Helmets also lent him support in the final three rounds of this season.
