THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty on Wednesday underlined the need for time-bound completion of urban development projects. Addressing a meeting convened to review the progress of Central government-sponsored and other welfare schemes taken up by the City Corporation, he said the government would extend all possible assistance to avoid delay in completion of projects. The Minister assured the Corporation that moves were on to fill vacancies in departments. “An alternative arrangement will be worked out for the interim period,” he said. Mr. Kutty directed officials to convene meetings at the Corporation level every two weeks to review progress of projects. The Minister himself would conduct review meetings every two months. Hurdle for projectProject managers told the meeting that the delay in implementing the tripartite agreement between the Corporation, Kerala Water Authority and the government was a major hurdle in launching the sewerage and water supply projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. Mayor C. Jayan Babu presided over the meeting. Principal Secretary, LSG, S.M. Vijayanand, Urban Affairs Director K.R. Muraleedharan, Deputy Mayor V. Jayaprakash and Corporation Secretary Johnson K. George, took part.
