Programme for river conservation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has drawn up a programme for protection of rivers of seven districts in the State. Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said the proposed projects in Kannur, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts would be taken at a cost of Rs. 20 crore. The major work will be on the construction of check-dam at Cheruthuruthi on the Bharatapuzha at a cost of Rs. 5 crore. He said a project would be drawn up for the protection of river banks close to estuaries.— Special Correspondent
