Pop culture catching on

Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: The modern pop music culture has spread like a wild fire today, particularly among children.

Centres conducting classes on modern music have been witnessing a fast growth rate.

The Surangini Music and Dance Institute have already enrolled 60 children for the modern music classes within four months of its opening.

Hanumant Kaude, who retired from the Indian Army and was with the nationally acclaimed orchestra of the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, Belgaum, says the response from both youth and children was more than he expected initially.

Though the centre conducts classes in Hindustani music, many are opting to learn western music, including pop, rock and jazz.

In keeping with the trend, they have started classes on instruments such as guitar, octopad, drums, keyboard and piano.
