Excellent display by Orissa bowlers

HYDERABAD: Orissa remained in contention for a probable win thanks to an excellent display by its bowlers. The visitor restricted Hyderabad (which earlier conceded a lead of 58), to a modest 143 for five on the third day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group league match at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal) here on Monday.

Putting behind the disappointing batting display in the morning when Orissa collapsed from its overnight score of 248 for three to 298 all out, the Orissa bowlers proved themselves equal to the task. Hyderabad managed to wipe off the deficit in the 21st over for the loss of S. Daniel Manohar’s wicket.

Striking at regular intervals, Orissa had the host struggling. Opener D.B. Ravi Teja once again failed to resist the temptation, sweeping left-arm spinner Sourav Saighal straight to the deep square-leg fielder just when he was looking good for a big knock.

Earlier, left-arm spinner P. Pragyan Ojha and medium-pacer Ashwin Yadav made amends for Sunday’s dismal display.
