Meridian School begins well

HYDERABAD: Host Meridian School was off to a winning start, defeating DPS Kuwait 3-0 in the boys’ under-14 first round of the CBSE Schools National table tennis tournament, at the Fateh Maidan Indoor Stadium here on Monday.

Nishanth defeated Siddarth 11-9, 11-6 and Yash Gupta got the better of Arvind 11-3, 11-4 to give Meridian a 2-0 lead.

In the third singles, Shourya defeated Vidhanth 11-3, 11-6.

Faisal nets winner

Morshed XI scored a solitary goal win over Sashidharan XI in the Susai memorial football tournament, organised by the Shastri Soccer Club, at the Trimulgherry Village grounds here.

The match-winner came in the 28th minute of the second half when striker Faisal scored off a solo effort.

Shiv Shankar wins

Shiv Shankar of Rajahmundry won the event in the State visually challenged chess tournament in Bhimavaram, according to information received here on Monday.

He also received a cash prize of Rs.10,000. Siddaiah of Tirupati and Harilal of Hyderabad finished second and third respectively.
