STYLE STATEMENT: Pick a helmet that displays your attitude.

Hyderabad: It’s all about hitting the road stylishly for bikers in city. And when it comes to the most important part of biking gear, designer helmets are the hottest to sport when you are getting ready to burn rubber.

In a sea of motorists wearing normal helmets, a young professional zooms by, cutting traffic, sporting a stylish ‘lid’. What makes him stand out is his helmet. The eccentric lines of graphics on it denote fire.

Attitude? That’s right. The need to feel different on the road comes with a heavy price tag. And with imported helmets hitting the market, youngsters don’t think twice before purchasing one.

“It gives you a sporty look. The first thing that is seen on the biker is his helmet, which, if it is trendy, makes a style statement. After all who wouldn’t want to have a good piece of art riding their head rather than the boring black helmet,” says Tarandeep Singh. These headgears are brought from Korea. Brands like BHP, GPR and AGV are stacked up and mind you, they need great care and maintenance no spare parts are available for them.

“Imported helmets come with fine cushioning and are slightly heavier when compared to Indian ones. They have adjustable ventilation ducts that ease air flow when one is riding,” says Md. Asif Khan of Helmet World, Secunderabad. But the prices of imported helmets might burn holes into the pocket what with they being priced between Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 6,000. “Apart from other features, graphics on the helmets make them expensive. Art work is an important yardstick with which to gauge the worth of the helmet,” says Mr. Asif.

The whole deal may be just to protect one’s head. But a pinch of style wouldn’t hurt.
