Sasikiran in last 16

NEW DELHI: K. Sasikiran overpowered Poland’s Barlomeij Macieja in the two blitz games for a 4-2 victory in their third-round match of the World Cup chess championship in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia, on Sunday.

Sasikiran’s two back-to-back victories came after the players drew the two rapid games. In the only other match to be decided on blitz games saw top seed Vassily Ivanchuk make an exit after losing to Romanian Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu 3.5-2.5.
