MVV lifts title

Coimbatore: Mukkala Vivekananda Vidyalaya (Chennai) tallied seven points to emerge champion in the State-level chess tournament for NIIT@School connected institutions at the Suburban HSS here on Friday.

Final standings: 1. Mukkala Vivekananda (Chennai) 7 pts (C.R, Aasha 1, S. Logeshwar 3, S. Prasanna 3); 2. Adarsh Vidya Kendra (Nagercoil) 6 (C. Alkondan 3, V.D. Vishnu 2, S. Karthick 1); 3. Sri Lathangi Vidya Mandir (Pollachi) 3 (R.V. Adith 2, S. Selva Narendran 1); 4. Suburban HSS (Coimbatore) 2 (R. Vikram 2).

SVRK, Chari in lead

SVRK and Chari were leading the table with 84 and 82 points respectively in the R.S. Puram open bridge tournament at the R.S. Puram Club on Saturday.

Easy for KPC

Karpagam Polytechnic College (KPC) notched up a 2-0 win over Government Polytechnic in a league match of the Bishop Ambrose Trophy football tournament on Saturday.

The results (league): Swami Sivananda HSS (Cbe) bt Bishop Ubagarasamy HSS (Tirupur) 3-0; Sri Gopal Naidu HSS bt Kendriya Vidyalaya 4-0; KPC bt Government Polytechnic 2-0.

Gowtham scalps seven

Fast bowler M. Gowtham scalped seven for 29 in Riverside Cricket Academy’s seven-wicket win over JSS College of Pharmacy in the Canara Bank-NDCA ‘C’ division league at the Lawrence School ground at Udhagamandalam here on Saturday.

JSS CP 85 (M. Gowtham seven for 29) lost to Riverside CA 86 for three in 20.2 overs; Rising Stars 281 (S. Madhiazhagan 98) bt Yellanhalli XI CC 122 (M. Murali four for 30).
