Former captains feted

KOLKATA: The gathering of around 40,000 spectators at the Eden Gardens had a look at some legends from India and Pakistan on Friday.

It was time to be nostalgic for many as former captains of India and Pakistan made rounds of the hallowed turf of the historic ground on golf carts while members of the current teams were having their tea break.

The list included former India skippers Dilip Vengsarkar and Mohammad Azharuddin along with Pakistan’s Asif Iqbal, Aamir Sohail and Rameez Raja.

The crowd clapped and cheered the cricketers, especially Azharuddin.

Meanwhile, an unclaimed tiffin box at one of the entrances to the stadium caused a ruffle. According to the deputy commissioner of Kolkata police, Vineet Goyel, the box was found when the match was about to start. — Principal Correspondent
