Sasikiran beats Zvjaginsev

NEW DELHI: K. Sasikiran pulled off two timely victories over Russia’s Vadim Zvjaginsev in the blitz games to complete a 4-2 victory in the second round of the World Cup chess championship at Khanty Mansiysk, Russia, on Thursday.

After the players drew the two rapid games, Sasikiran struck twice in succession to end Zvjaginsev’s resistance.

In a major upset, Bulgaria’s Kiril Georgiev knocked out former World champion Rustam Kasimdzhanov 4-3.
