Laxman in top 20

NEW DELHI: Stylish middle-order batsman V. V. S. Laxman is back in the top 20 of the LG ICC Player Rankings for the first time in three years following his excellent performance in the first innings of the first Test against Pakistan at Ferozeshah Kotla here.

Laxman, who scored an unbeaten 72, climbs two places with the South Africa captain Graeme Smith in the 19th spot and Sachin Tendulkar at 18th.

Captain Anil Kumble has also been rewarded for his bowling. Kumble, who was the man of the match for his seven for 106, rises two places to fifth in the rankings for Test bowlers.

Rahul Dravid is the highest-ranked Indian batsman at 11th while Sourav Ganguly is 28th after dropping one position.

Ponting on top

Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis are one and two respectively in the batsmen’s rankings while M. Muralitharan and M. Ntini lead the list among the bowlers.
