CHENNAI: The third edition of the JK Tyre Junior Racing Cup will commence at the Madras Motor Race Track in Irrungattukottai near here on Saturday. The competition, which was started two years back as a low-cost bridge to competitive racing for beginners and racing enthusiasts, has been rescheduled this year. The high track temperatures in summer have influenced the decision to hold it during a less oppressive period. The 10-race event in the Formula Maruti category will be conducted over two doubleheader weekends to minimise travel for outstation drivers. Round 1, featuring races one to five, will be held on December 1 and 2. Round 2, comprising races six to ten, will be staged on December 22 and 23. The grid for the first race of each round will be determined by a qualifying round. Thereafter, the grids will be determined thus: the top six in the first race will be reversed for the second i.e. the driver finishing sixth will start first. The same procedure of reversal will be followed in the three remaining races. The eight best finishes will count for the championship. The overall champion will receive a full scholarship for next season’s National racing championship in the Formula Swift category. Details regarding entry and hiring of cars can be had from the club office at Guru Mansion, 123/1, TTK Road, Alwarpet, Chennai, Ph: 24990998, e-mail: mmsc_chennai@yahoo.co.in
