Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have arrested two persons and recovered 18 sovereigns of jewellery. The police have resolved five cases of theft and burglary. Special teamsFollowing incidents of housebreaks and thefts, the City Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhirajan, constituted special teams which arrested Mohammed Bilal (22) of Kasargode in Kerala and Kumar (14) of Ukkadam. Theft casesThe police resolved three theft cases reported in Kattoor police station limits, one case in Race Course police station limits and another case in Peelamedu police station limits. While Bilal was lodged at Coimbatore Central Prison, Kumar (14) was lodged at the juvenile delinquents observation home. Meanwhile, a special team of the City Police arrested Sakthivel (29) of Kurichi and Ari alias Arumugam (38) of Vijayamangalam in Erode stated to be ex-convicts and notorious offenders. RobberyThe arrests have led to solving of a pocket picking incident and a case of robbery. It is leant that the duo were involved in stealing Rs. 70,000 and four sovereigns of jewellery from the handbag of a bus passenger Kali Vijeyeswari. The duo were also involved in stealing 3.5 sovereigns of jewellery from a fruit merchant Sundarrajan of Thyagi Kumaran Market. The arrest of the duo has led to the recovery of over 14 sovereigns of stolen jewellery and they have been lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
