Potter mania creeps into philately

VISAKHAPATNAM: Apart from the Harry Potter books written by J.K. Rowling a number of accessories that were depicted in the films had caught our imagination, like the magic wand, hat of the wizards and spectacles. Children visit stores to build up a Harry Potter collection. The potter mania has hit the children of this millennium like a bug. And now to add up to the list is Harry Potter stamps.

On July 17 Royal Mail issued a series of seven stamps depicting the colourful covers of each of the books in JK Rowling’s series. The commemorative designs were released on July 21 to coincide with the launch of the last of the Harry Potter books, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

This gesture by the Royal Mail has now caught up with the philatelists and one of city’s senior philatelists and numismatists B. Satya Buddhu is in possession of all the seven stamps. The collection was presented to him by Ms. Ravi Radha from London, who came to visit her parents here.

The series of stamps include the cover pages of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

A full set containing all the seven stamps was priced at 2.38 pounds.
