Conference on head injury and rehabilitation

Need to make helmet-wearing mandatory stressed



INFORMATIVE WORK: Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manohar hands over to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital Chairman Nalla G. Palanisamy a copy of a book ‘OT-Fervour’ that he released at a function recently.

COIMBATORE: A conference on ‘Head Injury and Neuro Rehabilitation’ was held here recently by the KMCH College of Occupational Therapy.

Chairman of the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH), Nalla G. Palanisami, stressed the need to make helmet-wearing mandatory in order to prevent fatal injuries in road accidents. He also explained the role of professionals in the field of rehabilitation in treating head injury patients.

Traffic rules

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. Manoharan, who was the chief guest at the inaugural, listed a number of road accidents that occurred because of non-adherence to traffic rules. He also said that the city police was into a number of programmes to sensitise people to need for adhering to the rules and turn roads accident-free. Trustee of the KMCH group, Thavamani D. Palanisami, spoke on the need to generate greater awareness among the people on occupational therapy. She also stressed updating of skills in the rehabilitation of head injury patients.

The two-day meet discussed causes and management of head injuries, rehabilitation and advanced techniques such as stem cell therapy. The Deputy Commissioner released a book, “OT- Fervour”, on occupational therapy that was brought out by the institution. The first copy was received by Mr. Palanisami.
