Southern and Western triumph

CHENNAI: Southern and Western won the women’s and men’s titles respectively in the All India Railways basketball championship which concluded here on Monday.

The General Manager of Southern Railway, Rakesh Chopra, gave away the prizes.

The results:

Men: Final: Western 88 (Y. Singh 23, J. Singh 18, P. Mishra 15) bt ICF 67 (Toni 23, Balaji 14). Third place: Southern 91 (Saravanarajan 27, Bernard 24, Navaneethan 18) bt NFR 80 (Birender Singh 32, Vinod 18).

Women: Final: Southern 80 (Geethu Anna Jose 24, P. Anitha 17, Meenalatha 18, Adhira 12) bt SECR 73 (Anju Lakra 21, Seema Singh 12, Bharti 10). Third place: Western 72 (Meenakshi Rao 27, Sreeja Stephen 12, Armika Patil 11) bt Central 69 (M. Beena 19, Geo Blesen 18). — Special Correspondent
