Kurukshetra varsity honours Hooda’s father

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Kurukshetra University on Monday conferred the honorary degree of D.Lit. upon the veteran freedom fighter Ranbir Singh Hooda, the only surviving member of the Constituent Assembly.

The degree was conferred by Vice-Chancellor R. P. Hooda at a specially organised function in Rohtak on the birthday of Ranbir Singh Hooda, who is the father of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

The Chief Minister said his father had always upheld political and social values and this aspect of his life had been very inspiring. He added that although his father held different political positions, he neither acted against any of his political opponents with political vendetta nor thought ill of them.

Rather his father felt hurt whenever there was a deterioration of political values, said the Chief Minister. He was very keen to create a new India where there would be no poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and hunger.

Mr. Hooda said his regime was trying its best to create such an India as was dreamt by freedom fighters and architects of the Indian Constitution.

He observed that it was a historic day today because the nation had adopted its Constitution on this day.

Professor R. P. Hooda said this degree was to be conferred at a function in Kurukshetra some months ago where former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was the chief guest. But because of some unavoidable circumstances Mr. Ranbir Singh Hooda could not attend that function.
