SBH triumphs

HYDERABAD: State Bank of Hyderabad won the inaugural SAAP Premier League prize money football championship with a 2-1 win over South Central Railway in the final at Gymkhana Grounds here on Sunday.

It was SCR which took the lead in the ninth minute of a fine solo effort from Mohd Azeem. But its joy was short-lived as the Bankmen scored the equaliser through Khaiser Ali who dribbled his way into the striking zone past a horde of defenders before essaying a powerful shot into the goal.In the second session, SBH netted the match-winner when Khaiser scored his second goal in the 70th minute.

Special prizes were given to Qadir of Hyderabad Sporting (best striker), Sekhar of SAI Kurnool (best midfielder), Rakesh of AG AP (best defender), Haribabu of SAI Kurnool (best goalkeeper) and Mohd Azeem of SCR (highest scorer with 16 goals). The winning team was richer by Rs.15,000 and the runner-up got Rs. 10,000.

BVB, Moulana in final

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School (Ramachandrapuram) and Moulana Azad Memorial High School entered the final of the fourth inter-schools hockey tournament for V. Purushotham memorial trophy at the Gymkhana Grounds here on Sunday.

In the first semifinal, BVB scored a convincing 6-0 win over Vignan Prabodananda Prashanti Niketan (Ghatkesar) after leading 4-0 at the break.

In another semifinal, Moulana Azad School recorded a narrow 2-1 win over a fighting Kendriya Vidyalaya (No.1 Uppal). The final will be held on Tuesday.

Easy for Patidar Samaj

Patidar Samaj recorded a 37-run win over Gujarati Yuva Mandal in the Twenty20 cricket tournament organised by Gujarati Seva Mandal at the RRC Grounds here.

The scores: Patidar Samaj 190 (Rajesh Patel 65, Nishit Sheth four for 35) bt Gujarati Yuva Mandal 153 for six (Kunal Gajjar 40).

Kutch Kadwa Patidar Samaj 192 for five (Kishore 67, Karan 50 n.o.) bt Secunderabad Lohana Mahajan 132 for seven.

Hyd-Secunderabad Khadayata Samaj 114 for nine lost to Visha Modh Gow Bhuja Samaj 117 for six.

Jain CC 197 for nine (Malav Shah 51) bt Gujarati Submersible Pump Assn 137 (P. Vindo 41).

Baria Seva Samaj 140 for seven (Akash Kadakia 52) lost to Dasha Sorathiya Samaj 141 for seven (Suranj 60).

Gujarati Brahma Samaj 139 for five (Abhishek Shah 78 n.o., Dhruv Parikh 40) lost to Hyd-Sec’bad Lohana Samaj 141 for three (Sushil 49 n.o., Jignesh 59 n.o.).

Umiya Patidar Samaj 116 (Mahesh Patel 45, Rishabh four for 17) lost to Gujarati Pragati Samaj 117 for two.
