LONDON: Arsenal took the sole lead of the Premier League on Saturday with a late win over Wigan after Manchester United fell to a surprise 1-0 loss at Bolton. The Gunners left it late against a stubborn visiting Wigan, with captain William Gallas and Tomas Rosicky scoring in the final eight minutes for a 2-0 win. Nicolas Anelka scored as Manchester United lost its first game at Bolton since 1978.
Arsenal leads the standings with 33 points, followed by Manchester United with 30, Manchester City with 29, Chelsea with 28 and Liverpool with 27. Bolton took advantage of a defensive error from Gerard Pique to score. When Pique tried to head clear a free-kick from Ivan Campo, he missed completely, and Anelka took the loose ball and scored in the 11th minute. The results: Birmingham City 0 lost to Portsmouth 2 (Muntari 34, Kranjcar 82); Bolton Wanderers 1 (Anelka 11) bt Manchester United 0; Arsenal 2 (Gallas 83, Rosicky 85) bt Wigan Athletic 0; Everton 7 (Yakubu 12, 73, Cahill 17, 62, Pienaar 43, Johnson 80, Osman 85) bt Sunderland 1 (Yorke 45).
