Mary Ann Gomes beats Maria Ignacz, maintains her one-point-lead

Antalya: The Kolkata girl Mary Ann Gomes maintained her one point lead at the end of the sixth round of the Under-18 girls section in the World Youth chess championship now half way through at Antalya in Turkey.

Mary is followed by three other girls on five points each.

Mary defeated Maria Ignacz of Hungary, a one-time rival of Harika.

In all other categories Indians are in second or third places and must do well in the remaining rounds to get medals.

U-8 boys: Harshal Shahi 5 bt Volkan Sevgi; Hetul Shah 4 lost to Jerome Ebenezer 5;
