Chinmaya takes trophy

KOCHI: Chinmaya Vidyalaya (Tripunithura) defeated Navy Children School (Willingdon Island) 1-0 and won its maiden Assisi Cup inter-school football tournament on Friday. K.S. Vinu scored the match-winner.

Other results: Semifinals: Chinmaya bt Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School 4-2 (TB); Navy Children bt Rajagiri PS 1-0. Special prizes: Nibu Kurien (Assisi, top scorer), P. Umesh (Navy Children, best player), Jesfy Joseph Thomas (Chinmaya, best goalkeeper).

St. Paul’s College defeated Maharaja’s (Ernakulam) by 34 runs to win the MGU’s North Zone inter-collegiate cricket title on Friday.

V. Suresh (100) and medium-pacer Anilkumar (five for 43) shone as SBT (Thiruvananthapuram) beat Buddies Infotech (Chennai) by 161 runs in a Pool ‘B’ league match of the 57th Cordiant-Pooja cricket tournament on Friday.

The scores: SBT 315 in 43.2 overs (Suresh 100, Ramakrishnan 65, Raja four for 63) bt Buddies Infotech 154 in 25.3 overs (Anilkumar five for 43).
