ERODE: A woman was found strangled to death near Erode on Monday. According to police, some persons tending goats at Avalpoondurai Semur village near Erode noticed a woman’s corpse and informed the police on Monday evening. Police found that the victim was Valarmathy (38), wife of Subramaniam of the same area. She was found to have been strangled and the 12-sovereign gold thali that she had been wearing was missing. It is suspected that an attempt to snatch the thali may have been made when she was walking near a tapioca field. It was likely that when she resisted, she may have been done to death. On information, the Superintendent of Police Sonal V. Misra, Additional Superintendent of Police N. Rathinam, and Modakurichi MLA R.M. Palanisamy rushed to the spot. Arachalure police have registered a case of ‘murder for gain’ and are investigating.
