Differences exist on border location: IAF

Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major

Shillong: The Indian Air Force on Monday sought to allay any threat from China and said there was “misunderstanding of the location of the India-China boundary.”

Replying to queries on the reported Chinese intrusion, Air Chief Marshal F.H. Major said, “Intrusion is a wrong word to be used. Yes, there is difference of perception of the boundary between both the countries.”

Stating that transgression of people through the border cannot be viewed as “violation” or “intrusion,” he told a press conference that talks were on to resolve the differences amicably. He also ruled out any threat as of now as China has no permanent air base in Tibet region.

Asked about the prospects of a joint exercise with the air force of China, Air Chief Marshal Major said, “The Army will have a joint exercise with the Chinese military next year. We are also hopeful of organising a similar exercise sometime later.” On Pakistan, he said the Air Force was watching the developments closely and was prepared to meet any eventuality. — PTI
