Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: India has offered help to cyclone-ravaged Bangladesh. President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have expressed their condolences over the deaths and pledged support and relief to the people of that country.

In a condolence message to Bangladesh President Iajuddin Ahmed, Ms. Patil said, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of lives and substantial damage to property in the aftermath of the hurricane. I am confident that people of Bangladesh will face this tragedy with courage and fortitude.”

In a message to Chief Adviser of Bangladesh government Fakhruddin Ahmed, the Prime Minister expressed his deepest sympathies to the members of the bereaved families. “India stands ready to assist in whatever way to help in the relief process,” Dr. Singh said.
