Pune: India’s Isha Lakhani committed far too many errors and went down in straight sets to her Indonesian rival Sandy Gumulya in the singles final of the $25,000 NECC-ITF women’s tennis here on Saturday. Second-seeded Sandy defeated eighth-seeded Isha 6-3, 7-5 in a closely-fought title clash to take home the winner’s purse of $2,940, while Isha pocketed $1,666. The Indonesian , ranked 263 in the world, outsmarted her left-handed 431st-ranked 22-year-old Mumbaikar 6-3, 7-5 at the Deccan Gymkhana courts. Sandy was in her element in the final and caught Isha on the wrong foot on several occasions while the Indian failed to capitalise on the few chances that came her way. The Indonesian said she was lucky to come through. “She was hitting the ball well,” Sandy said after her victory. Isha rued the missed opportunities, “I failed to capitalise on the chances I had.” The results: Final: Sandy Gumulya (Ina) bt Isha Lakhani 6-3, 7-5. — PTI
