RECOGNITION: Union Culture and Tourism Minister Ambika Soni presenting the Dayawati Modi Award to renowned painter Akbar Padamsee in New Delhi on Saturday. NEW DELHI: Union Culture and Tourism Minister Ambika Soni conferred the Dayawati Modi Award on noted painter Akbar Padamsee at Siri Fort Auditorium here on Saturday. Other worksDescribed as a pioneer of contemporary Indian art, the 79-year-old Mr. Padamsee’s other body of works include “metascapes”, “mirror images” and “heads.” “The Dayawati Modi Award highlights Mr. Padamsee’s outstanding contribution to contemporary Indian art. His works range from figuration to non-figuration. He is an artist difficult to bracket,” said Dayawati Modi Foundation president Satish Kumar Modi at the presentation ceremony. Previous winnersMr. Padamsee joins an impressive list of prominent award winners like Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, Missionaries of Charity founder Mother Teresa, ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, sitar maestro Ravi Shankar and eminent painter Tyeb Mehta. Instituted by the Dayawati Modi Foundation for Art, Culture and Education, the award comprises a cash prize of Rs.2.51 lakh, a silver shield and a scroll of honour.
