THALASSERY: Led by a superb performance by S.S. Anjana, Thiruvananthapuram overcame stiff resistance from reigning champion Kottayam 80-64 and moved into the women’s semifinals of the 52nd State senior basketball championship at the Municipal Stadium here on Thursday. The win took Thiruvananthapuram to the top of Pool ‘A’, which gave it a direct semifinal berth. Kottayam, which finishes second, qualified for the quarterfinals. In the men’s section, Pathanamthitta, from Pool ‘B’, Malappuram (Pool ‘C’) and Kasaragod (Pool ‘D’) entered the quarterfinals. Thiruvanthapuram, Ernakulam and Thrissur had already made it to the last eight. The results (preliminary league): Men: Pool ‘A’: Thiruvananthapuram 82 (R.
