Simranjeet Singh scores brace in IHF Under-16’s victory

NEW DELHI: Simranjeet Singh scored a brace to steer the IHF under-16 team to a 4-3 win over Indian Air Force (IAF) in the knockout leg of the 44th Nehru hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Thursday.
After Siddharth Sharma put the youngsters ahead in the 30th minute, Simarjeet (32nd and 45th minutes). Prabhdeep Singh (57th) made it 4-0 before IAF managed to score.
Jerom Kujur (61st and 65th) scored in a space of four minutes before Prabhakar (68th) raised hopes for an interesting finish. But IAF lost out on time.
BSF posts win
Border Security Force (BSF), Jalandhar, rode on Harpinder Singh’s brace (3rd and 4th) to beat ONGC XI 2-1. For ONGC, Amarjeet Pratap scored in the 10th minute.
In the third match of the day, Haryana XI defeated Tamil Nadu XI 5-4 in the tie-breaker after the two teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the regulation time. Haryana led 2-0 at the halftime through Sumit (9th) and Harish (17th).
But Tamil Nadu shot back late in the match. Adam Sinclair (50th) and Senthil Kumar (53rd) were the scorers.
But in the tie-breaker, Haryana came up trumps. Harish, Jitender, Kuldeep, Anil and Deepak were the scorers.
For Tamil Nadu, Muthu Kumaran, Muthuselvan, Senthil and Raja scored, while Ashwin missed the target.
