NEW DELHI: The much-awaited and promised Elite City League suffered a jolt when the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) postponed its Delhi project of the Vision India venture.
The project, scheduled to start on November 19, was expected to bring in a handsome grant from English giants Chelsea, which is one of AFC’s sponsors for this project.
Lack of grounds and failure to identify the 10 teams for the league was said to be the reasons for the elite competition being scrapped.
The Delhi Soccer Association’s request to accommodate 16 teams was rejected by the AFC. The AFC had insisted the league be played on a round-robin format with only 10 teams in the fray. — Special Correspondent
