News Analysis
* A report “Six teams probing murder of former vice-chancellor” (Tamil Nadu, November 15, 2007, page 10) said that police have formed special teams to investigate the murder of three persons, including former Vice-Chancellor of Calicut University Malik Mohammed and his wife Katheeja. Malik Mohammed was former head of the Department of Hindi, Calicut University. * The first paragraph in a New Delhi report “Omnibus AICC resolution to feature Nandigram, nuclear deal” (November 15, 2007) was: “Nandigram and the India-U.S. Nuclear Agreement will feature prominently in an omnibus resolution at the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting here on Saturday, which is being seen as the launching pad of Rahul Gandhi, the scion of the Nehru-India family.” It should have been “Nehru-Gandhi family”. * The eighth paragraph in a report “Ramadoss seeks early solution to Sri Lankan problem” (Tamil Nadu, November 14, 2007, page 1) was: “For instance, Education had been shifted from the Concurrent List to the General List”. There are only three lists under the Constitution — the Union List, the State List and the Concurrent List. There is nothing like a General List. Also, Education was shifted from the State List to the Concurrent List a few years ago. * In the column “Of Tiger’s tricks and memories” (“Sport”, November 15, 2007), by Gundappa Viswanath, the third paragraph was: “Being 1-0 up, the Indians will be hoping to close out the series in this game itself, but that is easier said than done.” It should have been “2-1 up”. * In a hockey report “Qualifying for Olympics will be tough: Charlesworth” (“Sport”, November 11, 2007), a sentence in the fourth paragraph was: “Indian men will play Olympic qualifier in Chile with England, Egypt, Chile, Australia and Bangladesh as other contenders.” Australia has already qualified for the Beijing Olympics as the Oceanic champion. * The results column of a report “Manchester United, Arsenal move up” (“Sport”, November 10, 2007) should have read “Sporting Lisbon 2 drew with AS Roma 2”, and not “Sporting Lisbon 2 bt AS Roma 2.”
