Pune: Third seed Neha Uberoi of the U.S. and fifth-seeded Nina Bratchikova of Russia were knocked out by lesser-fancied rivals in the $25,000 NECC-ITF women’s tennis championship here on Wednesday. Russia’s Alexandra Panova got the better of Neha 7-6(2), 7-5 to enter the quarterfinals. Joining Alexandra in the last eight was Alexandra Kolesnihenko (Uzbekistan), who shocked Nina 7-6(8), 6-3. Second seed Sandy Gumulya of Indonesia, sixth-seeded Silvia Disderi (Italy) and eighth- seeded Isha Lakhani (India) also advanced to the quarterfinals with comfortable second round victories. Another Indian to reach the round of eight was former National champion Rushmi Chakravarthi, who ousted compatriot Parija Maloo in straight sets in the second round.
