HYDERABAD: The Government has ordered an inquiry by the Vigilance Commissioner into the lapses allegedly committed by J. Kedareswari, who served as Director, State Archaeology, till last week, and submit a report for action against her.
Disclosing this in the Council on Wednesday, Information Minister A. Ramanarayan Reddy said the Government had received several complaints against Ms. Kedareswari for alleged irregularities committed by her during her four-year tenure as director. One such complaint was that she had de-notified 14.36 acres of archaeological land at Moula Ali near Secunderabad in survey Nos. 416 and 417.
As a result, the protection that continued to the site earlier had been withdrawn. There were some historical structures, including some tombs, on the land. The Minister said Ms. Kedareswari was a Central employee working in Salarjung Museum in Hyderabad before being brought to State service on deputation. As for Central service rules, a deputation of Central employee were permissible for three years but in the case of Ms. Kedareswari, the term was extended by another year. She was relieved of her charge as director on Nov. 6, 2007.
The Minister said the GO issued transferring her to another post contained a mistake in that it described her as an IAS officer. The mistake was since rectified by another order.
