NEW DELHI: The 44th Nehru hockey tournament began here on Wednesday with the knock-out phase. Riding on K. Chinglensana Singh’s three goals, North-East XI (Assam) defeated Youngsters Club (Delhi) 4-3.
Chinglensana scored in the second, 32nd and 60th minutes. L. Baraja Kumar Singh (18th) was the other scorer. For the Delhi team, Vikas Kahri (6th and 52nd) and Deepak (29th) were the scorers.
Four from the 20 teams in the knock-out will make it to the super league, which already has four direct entrants — Indian Oil, Indian Airlines, Bharat Petroleum and Namdhari XI. — Principal Correspondent
