METTUR: Chemplast Sanmar, a leader in the PVC and chloro chemicals production, is committed to ensuring ‘zero discharge’ of its effluents at all its production facilities so that the entire production process is totally ‘environment-friendly’. Saying that the Chemplast Sanmar group will occupy an enviable position in the global PVC market by October 2009, its Managing Director, P. S. Jayaraman, talking to reporters here on Monday, after the launch of the plant’s ‘Sustainability Report 2007’, said that they had invested nearly Rs. 1,200 crore on new and expansion projects in Mettur, Karaikkal and Cuddalore. Releasing the report here on Monday, State Agriculture Minister, Veerapandi S. Arumugam, lauded the efforts of the industry for its involvement in social commitment. The industry-people interaction should be strengthened and transparency maintained, he said. After receiving the first copy of the report from the Minister, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) President and Mettur MLA, G. K. Mani, asked the industry management to ensure pollution-free environment.
