Rajput stays as manager

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Lalchand Rajput has been retained cricket manager of the Indian team for the forthcoming three Test series against Pakistan.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the office bearers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India here on Tuesday.

According to BCCI president Sharad Pawar, the coach selection committee would appoint a new “person” for the tour of Australia in December.

“After discussion with the coach selection committee, we will take a decision as soon as possible. We desire to select a new person before the Australia tour,” Mr. Pawar said.

On the forthcoming Indian Premier League, the BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla said a meeting in this regard would be held in Jaipur on Saturday. Mr. Shukla informed that the Asian Cricket Council would meet next month to decide a convenient date for next year’s Asia Cup to prevent a clash with IPL.

PTI reports:

Mr. Pawar scotched speculation that Dav Whatmore is in the race for the coach’s job. He said since Whatmore had already been appointed for the NCA job, there was no question of considering him for the coach’s post. “No (he’s not in the race). He has already been appointed,” the Cricket Board chief said.
