Convincing win for VTU

Mysore: Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, coasted to a convincing 3-0 win over University of Kerala and sailed into the quarterfinals on the second-day of the South Zone inter-university tennis (men) championship 2007 held at the SJCE courts here on Tuesday.

In other pre-quarterfinal ties, Andhra University, S.B. Vishkapatnam, registered a 3-1 win over Karnatak University, Dharwad, while Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, entered the quarterfinals by default as six teams in its half did not turn up.

In an unfinished pre-quarterfinal tie, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi, was leading 2-0 against S.V. University, Tirupathi, and the deciding doubles tie was stopped due to bad light with both the teams level at one set all. The match will be continued on Wednesday.

The results: Pre-quarterfinals: Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, bt University of Kerala 3-0 ( S. Prateek bt M.S. Sharath Lal 6-2, 6-2; Sishir Patil bt G. Chandu 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(1); S. Prateek / R.K. Praveen bt Anand / Abhinash 6-2, 6-2).

Andhra University bt Karnatak University, Dharwad, 3-1 ( Kalyan Sudarshan bt Edwin G. Mendonce 6-0, 6-0; K.C. Shravan lost to Chetan Hosmat 3-6, 4-6; Kalyan / Srikanth bt Chetan / Edwin 6-4, 6-1; Kalyan Sudarshan bt Chetan Hosmat 6-0, 6-3).

IIIrd round: VTU, Belgaum bt Acharaya Nagarjuna University, AP 3-0; University of Kerala bt Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, AP 3-0; Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi bt University of Mysore 3-0.
