Facile win for Combined City XI

Bangalore: Prithvi Vardarajan’s 120 and Bharath Kashyap’s four-wicket spell helped Combined City XI defeat Vice-President’s XI by 60 runs in a KSCA inter-district under-17 tournament match here on Monday. The scores: Combined City XI 236 in 49 overs (Prithvi Vardarajan 120, Patrick Das 42) bt Vice-President’s XI 176 in 44.2 overs (Vinay Kumar 70, Bharath Kashyap four for 46).

Bangalore City XI 221 for six in 50 overs (Adil 75, David Mathias 44) bt Bangalore Zone 215 in 41.2 overs (Mayank Agarval 68).

President’s XI 212 for nine in 50 overs (S. Manish 59) bt Secretary’s XI 139 in 40.3 overs (Liyan Khan 68, Prashanth Poojar six for 32).

MES KK wins

MES Kishore Kendra won the boys’ under-16 team title in the Ramesh Padukone Memorial inter-school badminton tournament here on Monday. In the final, MES Kishore Kendra defeated Mahila Seva Samaj 2-0.

Susheel excels

Captain Susheel Kumar Rati (53 not out and five for 24) excelled as Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. High School (Kuthethur) scored a facile 101-run win over Kerala Samajam English Medium High School (Mangalore) in the Hangyo Cup match played at Nehru Maidan at Mangalore on Monday.

MRPL 164 for five in 25 overs (Susheel Kumar 53 n.o., Siddarth 32) bt Kerala Samajam 63 in 11.5 overs (Susheel Kumar five for 24); Infant Jesus 100 in 23.2 overs (Karthik three for 15, Prajwal three for 17) bt St. Aloysius 89 in 21.3 overs (Abrar three for 18).

Sports meet

Apoorva bags title

K.G. Apoorva of Mindtree Consulting Ltd won the ICA Classical chess tournament which concluded at the State Youth Cente here on Monday.

The third seeded Apoorva topped with a 5.5 points out of possible six in as many rounds.

In the sixth and final round, Apoorva drew with Durgesh. On the second board, H.G. Bharadwaj drew with Sanjit Saha to finish second with 4.5 points.

The third board saw a long drawn battle between Deepak Kumar Payeng and Sushrutha Reddy and the latter won in 64 moves.

H.S. Karthik of St Joseph Indian Middle School defeated Bharat Vijayaraghavan to finish fourth with 4.5 points. In the amateur section, Vikram Kumar won the title with 5.5 points.

Volleyball tournament

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited, Kuthethur, Mangalore will host the inter-petroleum volleyball tournament at its premises from Tuesday.

Five teams — Oil India Limited, BPCL, ONGC, BRPL and host MRPL — will vie for honours.
